When adding new end host to the Host ▓█ █▓ Tree, a traceroute is automatically performed to find all the ▓█ █▓ intermediate hops to the new end host. Traceroute is a process ▓█ █▓ where each intermediate host's IP address is discovered in ▓█ █▓ succession by the ICMP error reply it sends back to an ICMP Echo ▓█ █▓ request destined for the end host but has expired in transit, ▓█ █▓ which means the Echo request datagram's Time To Live field has ▓█ █▓ reached zero and cannot be forwarded. ▓█ █▓ ▓█ █▓ - Latency Measurement ▓█ █▓ NetDoppler performs latency measurements by reporting the round ▓█ █▓ trip time that it takes for an host to respond to a small Ping ▓█ █▓ packet. This measurement is an estimate of the minimum amount of ▓█ █▓ time it takes data to go from your computer to the host being ▓█ █▓ measured, the host to process the Ping packet, and then send it ▓█ █▓ back to your computer.High latencies may indicate a slow network ▓█ █▓ connection such as over a dialup modem, a busy network or bogged ▓█ █▓ down network hardware such as busy routers and/or switches, or a ▓█ █▓ slow or busy host. ▓█ █▓ ▓█ █▓ - IP Throughput Measurement ▓█ █▓ NetDoppler performs throughput measurements in two ways, Packet ▓█ █▓ Streams and Single Packets. Packet Stream throughput is found by ▓█ █▓ sending a single Ping packet of user specified length to the end ▓█ █▓ node allowing the sending computer and possibly routers along ▓█ █▓ the way to fragment the Ping, if necessary. In this case, the ▓█ █▓ entire amount of Ping data is streamed to the end host before it ▓█ █▓ generates a reply.The amount of time it takes for this packet to ▓█ █▓ be sent and a reply to be completely received is the delta time ▓█ █▓ used to calculate Packet Stream throughput. ▓█ █▓ ▓█ █▓ Single Packet throughput is found by sending multiple Pings the ▓█ █▓ size of the IP MTU, with lengths totaling the user specified ▓█ █▓ amount of Ping data.
